Creative Movement ages 3-4

Our Creative Movement class is designed to provide very young children with a strong foundation in movement and rhythm. Students will learn classroom etiquette and group dynamics, as well as counting, tempos and coordination. A variety of musical instruments and props are utilized to assist in the fun! All students must be potty-trained!

Pre-Ballet/Tap K-2nd grade

This 45-minute class provides a good introduction to the basics of classical ballet and tap. Once dancers reach the age of 8 and have demonstrated technical proficiency in the combo class, they can make an informed choice as to which individual classes they would like to pursue. Children in 2nd grade may also choose this class if they are interested in both Ballet and Tap, but not ready to move into two seperate classes per week.

Ballet 2nd grade-up

Ballet is considered the foundation of all other forms of dance. Our ballet classes are influenced by the Cecchetti Method, which is an internationally recognized method of classical ballet. The first part of the year is dedicated to technique and strengthening, while the last part is dedicated to recital choreography and performance. Students also learn correct ballet terminology, which is spoken in French. Dance Arts Studio allows the student to choose between two courses of study: Recreational Ballet (one class per week) or Pre-Pointe Ballet (two classes per week, for the more serious student who wishes to eventually take Pointe classes).

Jazz 2nd grade-up

Jazz classes are energetic, fun and challenging! Classes are based on the methods of traditional jazz, as well as the styles of today (video jazz, hip-hop), and are always age-appropriate. **Dancers are required to take Ballet in order to participate in Jazz.

Hip Hop 2nd grade-up

Hip Hop dance is just one element of the hip hop culture. This class will consist of street dance or dance styles that evolved outside of dance studios in everyday spaces such as the streets, schoolyards, backyards, etc. During the class students will learn a variety of street styles such as popping, ticking, c-walking and how to express themselves by freestyling to hip hop beats.

Tap 2nd grade-up

Tap classes develop an enhanced sense of rhythm, coordination and sound clarity. A combination of broadway-style and rhythm tap is taught. Dancers are not required to take ballet, but it is highly recommended.

Contemporary 6th grade-up

Contemporary dance has several style variations; it allows students to be expressive, while still incorporating ballet and jazz technique. Classes are a combination of ballet, jazz, and modern, as well as the styles of today (as seen on popular television shows)and allow freedom without losing technique. **Dancers are required to take Ballet in order to participate in Contemporary.

Pointe

Students ages 12-up who take at least 2 ballet classes per week, have taken a minimum of 2-3 years of ballet, and are highly dedicated to their dance classes may be invited by the instructor to test for readiness for pointe work. Not all dancers go "en pointe"; this does not affect a student's ability to progress and excel in dance.

Adult Classes

We offer Adult Ballet, Jazz and Tap for all levels. These classes offer a fun, non-traditional way to get in shape, strengthen and tone your muscles! Classes are scheduled according to interest.

Piano ages 5 through adult

The Dance Arts Studio piano program consists of a weekly 30-minute private lesson at our Beaufort facility. Lessons are student led using the Faber Method; each lesson concentrates on practical techniques and theory. A spring recital poses the perfect opportunity to display talent and enhance the performance skills. Please call for scheduling.
